Mildred Escolas

Mildred "Millie" Hill Escolas, age 85, a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2015. Preceded in death by husband, Eugene, parents, John Ernest and Helen Scruggs, brothers, John and Walter Scruggs. Survived by children, Gene (Donna), Madeline (Karl) Bletzacker, Dr. John (Una), Roger (Julienne), Philip and Margaret (Martin) Miller. 15 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews and in-laws. Special friend, Pat Pearl. A graduate of St. Joseph High School and Petersburg (VA) Hospital School of Nursing. Millie was a registered nurse at Doctors Hospital West, a real estate agent/broker with Millie Escolas Real Estate and a real estate instructor at CTI. A longtime resident of Lincoln Village North, having served as an officer of LVRA. Millie was very proud that she and Gene had received the LVRA "Good Neighbor" award, coincidentally after all of the children had moved away!! Millie shared her gift of music "by ear" playing the piano, entertaining on the radio at age 12 on Saturdays in Petersburg. She was an accomplished pianist/organist for many years with the Prairie Players Theater Productions as well as the St. Cecilia Church Choir. There will be a Memorial Mass at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 434 Norton Rd., Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 10:00 AM. Father Leo Connolly, Celebrant. Arrangements completed at Jerry Spears Funeral Home with Crematory, 2693 W. Broad St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Columbus, 700 Jasonway Ave., Columbus, OH, 43214 or a charity of your choice.
