Beatrice Ann Gartin

Beatrice Ann Gartin, age 81 , died on Monday, December 11, 2017 in Longview, Texas at Treviso Retirement Home.  She was born in Hilliard, Ohio to Lewis and Nola (Young) Holbrook, the first of seven children.  After graduating from high school she married her best friend’s brother, her first love,  and the father of her four children, Charles Burnum.  She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Gregory Charles Burnum, brother Clifford Holbrook, sister Janna Chapman,  husband Charles, and after remarrying, her husband Bill Gartin.  Bea is survived by her sister, Maxine Southworth, brothers Tom Holbrook, Bernard Holbrook, and Wayne Holbrook, three children; Dora Dickson of Longview, TX,  Beverly Smith of Dublin, Ohio,  and Jeffrey Lewis Burnum of Columbus, Ohio.  She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, eleven grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.  

Ecclesiastes 7:1 states that “A good name is better than a fine perfume, and the day of death better than the day of birth“.  Bea exemplified this verse.  She was a fine example of love towards all people no matter their social status.  She truly served others and sacrificed her strength, time, and funds for those in need.  She is a shining light.

The family will greet friends on Monday, December 18th, 2017 from 12 noon to 1:00pm at Jerry Spears Funeral Home 2693 W. Broad Street in Columbus, Ohio.  Funeral service will begin that same day and location at 1:00pm with her grandson, Rev. Michael Powell officiating.  Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery 6959 W. Broad St. Galloway, Ohio.  Flowers may be sent to Jerry Spears Funeral Home.
