Gerard "Gerry" McCausland, 63, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2024, in Columbus, Ohio.
Gerry spent his early years residing at Apple Creek Developmental Center in Apple Creek, Ohio, and Homestead Farms in Genoa, Ohio. He later lived at Youngstown Developmental Center in Youngstown, Ohio. In 2001, Gerry found his home at Columbus Developmental Center (CDC), where he became a beloved member of the community.
An active athlete in the Special Olympics, Gerry excelled in basketball and took great pride in his athletic achievements. At CDC, he was affectionately known as the resident DJ, providing music for parties and events that brought joy to all who attended. Gerry also enjoyed pretending to serve as campus police and firefighter, roles that showcased his playful spirit and love for connecting with others.
Gerry had a fondness for Pepsi and delighted in sharing his walkie-talkies with peers and staff. He was also a valued employee of Goodwill Work and Community Services, where he contributed meaningfully to his workplace.
Gerry will be deeply missed by his CDC family and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. His vibrant personality, infectious smile and kind heart left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered.
May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him.
There will be a gathering of friends Monday, December 16 from 3-4pm at JERRY SPEARS FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY, 2693 West Broad St, where memorial service will follow at 4pm, Rev. Tim Lee officiating.
