William Modry Obituary

William P. Modry, 82, of Lakewood Ranch, Florida (formerly Columbus, Ohio, Flushing, New York and
Saint Petersburg, Florida) passed away unexpectedly on July 10, 2024 following a serious automobile
accident in Charlotte, North Carolina. The couple were on their way back to Florida after visiting
family and friends in Ohio. Bill passed away peacefully with his wife Linda, and son Michael, at his
side.
Born on April 6, 1942 in Flushing, New York to the late Ceceila (Mara) Modry and Charles Modry, Bill
was preceded in death by his sister Jane Modry and his precious dog Sandy. He is survived by his
wife Linda, son Michael Moore, granddaughter Katie Moore and several cousins.
Bill was a 1960 graduate of Holy Cross High School in Flushing, New York. In 1964 he graduated
from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in civil engineering. He also earned a Master’s
degree in civil engineering from the New York University Tandon School of Engineering.
After graduating from Notre Dame he spent the next 38 years working for American Electric Power,
first in Manhattan, NY and moved to Columbus , Ohio when the company moved its headquarters.
After retiring he enjoyed working at the Westerville Golf Center and the Links in New Albany until he
and Linda retired to Saint Petersburg, Florida and later moved to Lakewood Ranch, Florida.
Bill loved spending time with his family and friends. Every Tuesday morning his breakfast crew met at
Skyway Jack’s in St. Pete to solve all the problems in the world. He loved watching all sports,
especially his beloved Notre Dame and watching his granddaughter Katie play sports. He enjoyed
teaching himself computer programming.
Bill was passionate about serving others in his church and community. Among the myriad of
volunteer activities he pursued, singing in the choir at Resurrection and Our Lady of the Angels were
his favorites. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, helped with RCIA, participated in the
Finance and Building committees, and was a Eucharistic Minister to homebound and nursing homes.
He volunteered to do taxes for AARP, was on the school board at Saint Francis DeSales High School
when Michael was there and countless other volunteer activities.
Bill tried hard to convert Michael to a “Fighting Irish” man instead of a “Buckeye” man, unfortunately to
no avail.
Friends and family may visit from 10am-10:50am on June 6, 2025 at the Church of the Resurrection,
6300 East Dublin- Grandville Road, New Albany, Ohio 43054. A mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated on Friday June 6 at 11 am at the Church of the Resurrection.
A memorial mass will be held on July 17 at 11am at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Parish, 12905
SR 70, Lakewood Ranch, Florida 34202.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital,
PO Box 1000 Department 142, Memphis, Tennessee 38148, or the charity of your choice.
