Sue Strunk Obituary

Sue Ellen Strunk, 80, passed away Saturday, October 18 at her home in Galloway, OH. She was born June 29, 1945, in Louisville, KY, where she attended Waggener High School and the University of Louisville, and raised her family before moving to Ohio in 1994.

Sue was a former employee of Our Lady of Peace Hospital in Louisville, which she found most fulfilling, as well as Hilliard-Lyons and Nationwide Insurance.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob J. Stich, Jr. and Sue Hall Stich; brother Jacob J. “Peter” Stich III, sister-in-law Virginia “Frankie” Stich, and son-in-law Daniel Glaab.

Sue is survived by her devoted husband of 30 years, Dale Strunk; daughters Heather Clary (Bill) of Lexington, KY, Hilary Braun (Sam Shields), and Holly Glaab of Louisville; stepsons Steve Strunk (April); Scott Strunk (Stephanie), and Jennifer Strunk Hitt (Andy); five grandchildren; 11 beloved nieces and nephews; countless extended family members; good friends, and her beloved dog Wilson.

Sue was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Thomas More Church in Louisville, then St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Columbus, serving in many ways throughout her life including as a lector and a choir member. She also was very involved in her daughters’ lives, including school activities and the Girl Scouts. She was sure to instill in her daughters’ upbringing was that they could achieve anything and was committed to ensuring they all received a college education.

Sue was proud to keep a beautiful home to welcome family and friends to visit. She was an avid fan of University of Louisville basketball and football, Ohio State University football, and the Baltimore Ravens.

She was not afraid to try new experiences, no matter her age, including ziplining in Hocking Hills and parasailing in Put-in-Bay with her family.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 26, from 2-5 pm at Jerry Spears Funeral Home, 2693 W. Broad Street, Columbus, OH. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, October 27, at 10:30 am at Saint Cecilia Catholic Church, 434 Norton Road, Father Nic Ventura, Celebrant. 

Sue was a regular blood donor and adopted several pets over the years. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the American Red Cross or your local Humane Society or animal shelter.
