Patti Smith-Burton Obituary

Patti Louisa Smith-Burton,age 70, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. She was born May 7, 1955 and was the beloved daughter of Charles and Almeta Smith (née Gossett). She was the oldest of two daughters, loved by her younger sister Pamela Sue Watkins (née Smith).

Patti graduated from Xenia High School in 1973 and went on to pursue her undergraduate degree in Education from Urbana College in 1977. With a passion for shaping young minds, she began a remarkable teaching career that spanned over 35 years. She later earned her Master’s degree from The Ohio State University in 1983. Patti devoted her life to education, teaching at Columbus City Schools and later at Cypress Christian School, where she touched countless lives with her compassion, patience, and unwavering commitment.

Her greatest pride and joy was being a mother to her two sons, Georden Patrick and Garrett Phillip. Patti was an extraordinary mother whose love knew no bounds. She dedicated her life not only to her own children, but to improving the lives of all those she encountered.

Patti loved gardening, dancing, laughing, spending time with loved ones, and caring for her cherished pets. A devout Christian, her faith guided her actions and relationships, and she was long-term beloved member of the Cypress Church community and lived her life as a reflection of that faith.

She was a devoted and dutiful daughter, lovingly caring for her mother in her later years. Patti was also affectionately known as a “bonus mom” to many, always opening her heart and home to those in need of love and support.

Full of personality, joy, and charisma, Patti had a remarkable ability to connect with others. She was endlessly curious, kind-hearted, and always willing to pour into those around her. Her presence brought warmth, laughter, and light to every room she entered.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Garrett Phillip Burton. She leaves to cherish her memory her adoring son, Georden, her sister, Pam, her favorite niece, her nephews, and a host of family and friends who loved her dearly.

Patti Louisa Smith-Burton’s favorite phrase was “Peace and Love,” a reflection of the way she lived her life every day. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
