Louise Ellen Budde, 74, passed away on February 11, 2026.
Born on August 24, 1951, Louise was the beloved daughter of the late Bob Rathbun and Shirley Anne Rathbun (Hahn). Growing up, the family moved all over the United States from Connecticut to the California coast, and Louise was quick to make friends wherever she went, a trait she continued throughout her entire life.
On September 7, 1974, she married John Budde, her husband of 52 years. Together they built a wonderful life and family in Columbus with their three boys - Matt, Mark, and Jeff. Louise was a devoted wife and mother, who would do anything for her boys, and was always there to support them. Her greatest joy was her family and friends, and she and John were an active and well known part of the Grandview community for decades. She treasured time spent together — whether traveling throughout the U.S. and all seven continents with John and other friends and family, going out to eat, regular coffee gatherings, or simply enjoying one another’s company at home or family events.
She completed both her undergraduate degree and MBA from Ohio State at a time when women MBAs were rare. She had a natural gift and love for interior design, and was ultimately able to combine her education and passion into her own kitchen and bath design business where her friends became clients and her clients became friends. When you caught her reading a design magazine, you never knew if it was for business or pleasure because it was always both. Her kitchen and bath designs are located throughout Columbus in many of the area’s prominent homes and have been featured in numerous publications.
Louise is preceded in death by her parents Bob Rathbun and Shirley Anne Rathbun. She is survived by her husband, John Budde; her sons, Matt Budde (Kari), Mark Budde (Elizabeth), and Jeff Budde (Christine); and her cherished grandchildren, Van, Klara, Wesley, Juniper, and Nell Budde. She is also survived by her siblings, Bob Rathbun, Charlie Rathbun, and Mary Anne Favre, along with extended family and many many dear friends.
She was energetic, caring, fun, social, and always there for those she loved. Louise leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and positivity that will continue through her family for generations to come.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
