It is with deep love and sadness that the family of Lillie M. Gilliland, 82, announces her peaceful passing on December 4, 2025. Born in Texas on October 1, 1943, Lillie carried her Southern warmth and strength with her throughout her life. As a young adult, she made Columbus her home, where she spent her years devoted to her family and those she held dear.
Lillie worked for many years at Bob Evans as a server, retiring in 1986. Through her work she touched countless lives, known for her kindness, her welcoming smile, and her genuine care for others.
On September 13, 1966, Lillie married the love of her life, James R. “Dick” Gilliland, and together they built a life centered on devotion, family, and enduring love. Although she was not the youngest of her six siblings, Lillie was the last surviving member of her generation—a quiet testament to her strength, resilience, and enduring spirit.
Lillie is survived by her cherished son, James R. Gilliland, Jr.; her chosen daughter, Regina Christopher; and her daughter by love, not by law, Vickie Edwards. She leaves behind her pride-and-joy grandchildren, Joshua Edwards, Zachary Gilliland, Brianna Gilliland, and Elijah Hardy; and her adored great-granddaughters, Kylee and Addison Edwards.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, James R. “Dick” Gilliland, and her stepdaughter, Melissa J. Gilliland, whom she held dearly in her heart.
Lillie will be remembered for her kindness, her unwavering resilience, and the deep love she poured into her family. Her legacy lives on through the generations she nurtured, guided, and adored.
The family invites friends and loved ones to share memories, offer condolences, and celebrate her life.
