John Weaver-Russell Obituary

John “Red” Lewis Weaver Russell, 50, of Springfield, Ohio, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2025, at The Ohio State University Hospital (James Unit). He was born in Springfield, Ohio, November 1, 1974, to John Lewis Weaver and Edna Jane Russell.

He was married to his loving wife Arisa (Auls) Russell where they spent over 25 years together. He is survived by his wonderful daughters; Jonya Grace, Jai’Lee Rose, and Autumn Mary Jane Russell; Mother, Edna Russell; Sister, Cathy Russell (Talika, Tejuan (O’mari), Isaiah and Iasiah); Brother, Darryl Russell; Brother, Terrence Weaver (Tory and Tabitha Malton, Christopher and Kalib Weaver); Mother in law, Charissa Coleman; Father in law, Reginald Auls  (Angie); Sister in law Akevia Christman (Jacob, Demetrius); Sister in law, Regina Auls (Dwight Graham) (Danielle, Kameron, Sauren (Alaia), Dwight III, Danica, Dane); Reginald Auls (Jaden, Kai, Jayeveon, Kayla and MaLonni); Brother in law Isaiah Coleman (Isaiah); Sister in law, Rachell Newman (Raquan); and a host of Uncle, Aunts and Cousins. Red has a host of friends and family from Springfield and Columbus, Ohio.

He is preceded in death by his father John Lewis Weaver, Paternal Grandmother Opal Annie Beasley; Maternal Grandparents Ralph Sr., and Velma Russell; Uncle Rufus Weaver Jr.; Aunt Patricia Russell; Aunt Natalie Russell; Aunt Anne Weaver (Riley); Aunt Janice Weaver (Powell); Aunt Diana Crowe (Cornelius).

John (Red) grew up in Springfield where he played for the Springfield Little Tigers football team. He graduated from North High School where he also played on the football team and later went on to receive his Certification in Carpentry. He enjoyed his working in Construction as he worked on hospitals, highways, and other projects across Central Ohio with his brothers from Local Union 200. Red was a big kid at heart and enjoyed getting kids excited for any sport!! He was a Coach of the Little Sharkes football team and referee other games. His favorite football teams were Notre Dame, OSU and of course the Pittsburgh Steelers. One of his best birthdays was seeing his team play at the Acrisure Stadium. To know Red was to love him as he brought much laughter, pranks, jokes, and a huge personality to every setting. He had the gift to make you mad and happy at the same time.

Join us as we Celebrate the Life of John “Red” Lewis Weaver Russell on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Linden Community Center, 1350 Briarwood Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43211 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Please send all flower arrangements to 1215 N. Grant Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43201. In honor of Red, we are asking for everyone to wear Black and Yellow to represent his favorite team, Pittsburgh Steelers fans (GEAR UP)!
