John Cross Obituary

John Frederick Cross, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away in the morning hours of April 17th, 2024, in Grove City, Ohio. He was born on October 20, 1934, in Columbus, Ohio, to Frederick and Mary Cross.

John graduated from Aquinas High School in 1952, lettering in swimming. Following his graduation, he served his country proudly, first at Fort Sill, then as a member of the Army's 59th Field Artillery in Pirmasens, Germany, from 1954 to 1956.

Upon his return home, John pursued higher education, graduating with a degree in Business in 1960 from Bliss College. His passion for service then led him to become a prominent member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2898, where he served as Grand Knight from 1968 to 1969. John was also a devoted member of the Shamrock Club for many years, serving as its President in 1994. A faithful member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, John found peace and strength in his faith throughout his life.

Professionally, John enjoyed a successful career in sales, establishing the Cross Insurance agency and working for companies such as Graham Ford, Saeger Buick, and Olan Mills. He was known for providing exemplary service to his clients. Outside of work, John found joy in sports, particularly softball and, later, golf.

On April 23, 1966, John married the love of his life, Lena (Nicki) Schwind. Together, they shared 55 years of love and laughter. Their union was blessed with three children: Daughter Mary Kathleen (Kathy) and sons John and Michael.

John is survived by his sons John (Martha) and Michael (Kitty), siblings Pat (Tom) Byrd and Frank (Becky) Cross, his grandchildren Katie (Travis) Copeland, Karly (Josh) Mullen, Matthew, Brenna (Ian) Magrogan, Brigid, Keegan and Luke Crosstyrk, and two great-grandchildren Willow and Evelyn Copeland. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Nicki, daughter Kathy (Connie) Cross, and his parents Frederick and Mary.
