Evelyn K. Monahan passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026 at the age of 106. Preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Francis D. Monahan and son, Keith R. Monahan. Born in Byesville, OH, Evelyn came to live in Columbus where she met her future husband at the age of 19, a sailor who was visiting home during his military leave. Soon after, they married and lived in Hawaii for two and a half years where they both became survivors of Pearl Harbor. After evacuating the island in April of 1942, Evelyn came back with her 3 month old son and settled with her Aunt Floris Musser on a quiet street here in Columbus. After the war, they relocated to Nevada and then Seattle, Washington where they purchased a house and stayed until Frank’s retirement in the islands of Saipan. Evelyn lived a long, wonderful life, full of many experiences that she wouldn’t trade for the world. She is survived by her 2 children Steven F. Monahan (Ann) and Teresa E. Shaw (who is survived by Berl Shaw); grandchildren Penny Becker (Ryan), Crystal Leukart (T.J.), Amber Spencer (James), Stephen Spaulding, Kristen Spaulding, and Kenzie Spaulding, and many great grandchildren she loved dearly. Evelyn’s big personality will truly be missed. She was a proud chartered member of St. Agnes Church on West Mound Street where she participated in many humble activities.
