It is with immense heartbreak that we announce the passing of Derek Peterson age 37 of Roseville, Michigan. For 15 wonderful years Derek shared his life with his soulmate and partner Shannon Abbott. Together they built a life full of love, joy and adventures centered around their two sons Dominic and Ace, whom Derek adored and devoted himself to wholeheartedly. Derek served honorably in the US Army as a member of the 101st airborne division in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. As a true plane enthusiast, Derek was logging flight hours in his free time for his pilots license. His need for speed was matched only by his devotion to the Detroit Lions a team he loved even before it was cool. A true old soul, lover of history, music, kayaking and traveling to the U.P.
Derek’s unwavering loyalty extended to his best friend and brother by choice William “Bill” Ambrow. The two shared countless adventures, endless conversations and a bond that defined the true meaning of family and friendship.
He was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother and caretaker Doris “Dima” Peterson. Her memory was a guiding force in his life. Now Dima can hold and care for her golden boy again.
He survived by his mother, Brenda Peterson, lifelong partner, Shannon Abbott, sons Dominic and Ace, in-laws Jeff and Kitty Litteral, sisters he never had Meghan, Morgan (Clayton), Mollie (Charlie), numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
A celebration of Derek’s remarkable life will be January 11, 2025 at 2 PM at Lighthouse Christian Church in Ashville, Ohio, by Pastor PJ Rings. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to his son’s education fund. Please see family for more information.
Derek‘s loyalty love and sense of humor will never be forgotten. His memory will live on in the laughter of his sons. The love of his partner and countless lives. He touched rest peacefully Derek you were truly one of a kind and will never be forgotten.
