Alan “Scott” Ferrall of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by his siblings the morning of Friday, April 6, 2018 in Columbus, Ohio.
Scott was born in Columbiana, Ohio on November 14, 1961. He was the sixth child and fifth boy of Bill and Melba Ferrall. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Ferrall, Melba (Kennedy) Ferrall and his sister, Kimberly Sue Ferrall. Scott is survived by siblings: Jeff Ferrall, Drew (Karen) Ferrall, David (Tracey) Ferrall, Doug (Beth) Ferrall and Beth (Tom) Waldren. He will be deeply missed by nephews and nieces, William (Ashley), Sarah, Patrick, Katie, Conor, Joel, Grace and Abigail. Scott was by far the favorite uncle because he was a child at heart and loved being a part of all of their lives. He attended ballgames, recitals, shows and any other activities where he could support his nieces/nephews. Also, we would be remiss to not mention Scott’s extended family through his work at Weathervane Community Playhouse and previous to that, Cuyahoga Falls High School’s theatre department.
Scott attended Cuyahoga Falls High School and graduated in 1980. He then attended the Ohio State University for a short time but knew his heart wasn’t in a big school. After working a few years in Columbus he returned to Cuyahoga Falls and pursued a career in banking while volunteering at Weathervane Playhouse. After a few years at home, the position of Auditorium Manager opened at CF High School. Scott began his career there in 1989 and was much more than the traditional manager of a school auditorium. He became the resident set-designer and technical director for many school musicals and plays. After many years with the high school, Scott really wanted to receive traditional training in the arts and was accepted into the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University to study scenic design. Quite an accomplishment for a 30-something year old! Due to the sudden death of Scott’s father, he returned to Cuy. Falls after a year and a half at NYU. When he returned home, he began his career at Weathervane as the resident scenic designer and tech director. Scott worked/volunteered for Weathervane for almost 30 years. He designed and built sets for more than 150 shows but probably his biggest joy was training the volunteers at Weathervane (and the students at CF High School). He loved sharing his joy for the theatre with everyone and it will be his greatest legacy.
A celebration of Scott’s life will be held at Weathervane Community Playhouse, 1301 Weathervane Lane, Akron, Ohio 44313 on Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 5:30 pm - 8 pm (service begins in the Mainstage theatre with a reception immediately following in the lobby). To commemorate Scott’s life and his love of the performing arts, a scholarship in his name will be established at Weathervane for high school students who plan to study musical theatre/scenic design in college. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Weathervane Community Playhouse, in Scott’s name, at the address above or through http://www.weathervaneplayhouse.com/donate. Arrangements completed at Jerry Spears Funeral Home with Crematory, 2693 West Broad St. Columbus.
