Gary Newell

Gary Alan Newell, passed into eternity on May 17, 2019 at the age of 67, at Fairfield Medical Center. 

He was born in Oregon on  January 30, 1952.  He was preceded in death by parents, Rev. Leslie and Kathryn Newell; brother, Leslie John Newell; and wife of 34 years Donna. 

He is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Cheri; biological daughters: Becky (Marc) Nardi, Leah Caswell;  grandchildren: Kathryn, Madisyn, Quentin, David, and Aydin; sister, Patty (Albert) Armitage; sister-in-law, Ethel Newell; stepchildren: Kevin (Susanne Pennington) Mikesell, Tammi (Derrick) Beyer, and Aimee (David Baker Jr) Wilson; Daughter-in-law, Amy Mikesell; Step grandchildren: Tyler, Trevor, Travis, Matthew, Sarah, Jordan, Brandon and Hannah and great grandchild: Avery; mother and father in law, Merle and Millie Caswell; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

Gary retired from the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) in Columbus, OH after 34 years working in the building maintenance and shipping and receiving departments.  

Gary grew up in a loving Christian home and came to know the Lord at a young age.  He had the privilege to spend almost his entire life serving in many churches across the country.  He particularly enjoyed teaching children in Sunday School, Joy Club and Awana. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Lancaster, OH.  

Gary loved reading, studying and discussing the Bible, was an avid gardener and self proclaimed “doodler” who was always known to have a pen in his pocket to ensure the opportunity to create amazing art on any type of medium, even a napkin.  He enjoyed traveling and camping and spent as much time as possible out in God’s creation.  He was extremely patriotic and was fascinated with history and American historical sites.  

Friends may call at Jerry Spears Funeral Home, 2693 West Broad St. Wednesday, 4-7pm. Private family Graveside service and interment 11:00am Thursday, May 23 at Reber Hill Cemetery in Ashville, OH. Memorial service will be held at 2:00pm Thursday at  Fellowship Baptist Church 6270 Shier Rings Rd Dublin Ohio 43016 Rev. Jim Stevanus officiating.
