William E. "Bill" Gilbert

William E. (Bill) Gilbert, 81, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away suddenly Tuesday, September 14, 2021. Born June 13, 1940 in Kentucky to the late Hazel Russell Gilbert and Herbert Gilbert. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Patricia (Patty) Gilbert.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Billie Jo Gilbert, Nina (Phil) Mengali, and Diana (Vic) Harris, three grandsons, Michael, Billy and Ben (Jacki) Toppins, two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Alice Toppins, Brother-in-law Joseph Myers, all of Columbus, one brother, Garry Gilbert of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. Along with his parents, one brother, Larry Gilbert, preceded him in death.

Bill was a former auto body technician, an avid lover of cars, enjoyed restoring classic cars and building hot rods, playing music, and spending time with his family. He was also known dearly as “PeePaw” or “Peep” by his grandsons and great-grandchildren. Bill will be sorely missed by many.

Friends may call Monday, September 20, 2021 from 11am-1pm. at JERRY SPEARS FUNERAL HOME of HILLIARD, 5471 Frazell Rd.,where service will be held at 1pm. Interment Alton Cemetery, Galloway, Ohio.
