Suzanne McClelland Obituary

Suzanne McClelland, 60, of Richwood, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2020.

Suzanne spent her last years with an incurable form of breast cancer. She viewed it as an inconvenience, a disappointment, and something she’d likely rather not be discussed. So we won’t.

She met her husband and best friend, Timothy M. McClelland while working at Kmart. They knew immediately that they had each found their person, and were married 3 to 5 months later (accounts have varied through the years) in August of 1981.

Suzanne spent 39 wonderful years with Tim. They had two kids - Shane McClelland, of Columbus, Ohio; and Seth McClelland, of Richwood, Ohio. Eventually Seth also gave her two grandchildren, Anthony and Carter.

She was immensely proud of her sons, regardless of whatever family scandal they were currently embroiled.

She greatly enjoyed sleepover visits from her grandsons and their plethora of superhero paraphernalia.

Suzanne was a graduate of West High School in Columbus, Ohio. She was in the band, and gave the gift of music to both of her sons. She attended The Ohio State University for accounting, but quickly determined it wasn’t for her and that she would rather work.

She held a few jobs, but the longest was at Honda. She helped make many cars, and made even more friends.

More than anything she enjoyed working with Tim in their concession business (and brief restaurant), Fat Boys. Many will recall Suzanne from fairs, festivals, pumpkin patches, and softball fields. Always providing drinks, meals, deep fried concoctions, and warm conversation.

Suzanne had a deep affinity for Mexican cuisine and could often be found at Fiesta Grande in Marysville.

She valued family and family events, often operating under the assumption that there would not be enough of anything and she would need to personally provide a literal truckload of food and supplies for family gatherings. Of particular note were her variety of cookies, dream pie, seasonally appropriate (or just pumpkin pecan) cheesecakes, and a variety of cheese balls.

She is also survived by her brother Charles Kountz, her sister Chris Hackley, many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, as well as many adoring nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Many friends, too numerous to mention. As well as several pets, especially Rosco, who has maintained constant vigil in her absence.

She will be supremely missed, but fondly remembered, by everyone who knew her.

A memorial viewing will be held from 4-7pm at Jerry Spears Funeral Home in Columbus, Friday, October 23, 2020. A graveside service will be held at 11am Saturday, October 24, 2020 at Price Cemetery near her home in Richwood, Ohio. Do not be surprised if Suzanne is late.
