Marty Anderson Obituary

Marty Anderson, superb sister, loving aunt, loyal friend and WCL member, and proud “west-sider”, died November 11, 2022. Taken much too soon, Marty was brilliant, kind, generous and could often be found sipping a glass of wine and unpacking a bag of salty snacks alongside family and friends. For years, she celebrated her birthday with her mother and sisters abroad on their annual girl’s trip. With her husband, Warren, she frequented jazz concerts, enjoyed great food and loved to explore art exhibitions near and far.

A fierce and dedicated attorney, Marty was a partner at Sowald, Sowald, Anderson, Hawley & Johnson law firm. She passionately advocated for women, children, and people of color. Prior to joining the firm, Marty was general counsel to a Pennsylvania company, and in private practice.

A graduate of Miami University and University of Cincinnati College of Law, Marty served on bar association family law committees, and was a member of the City of Columbus Development Commission.

Marty was preceded in death by her husband Warren W. Tyler, her parents Richard and Rita Anderson, and brother-in-law Michael Graham. She is survived by her sisters Julie (Skip) Sanford and Rita Ann Graham; nephews and niece Max Sanford, Maggie (Patrick) Cash and Ian (Mira) Graham; and great nieces Lily and Annabelle Sanford, and Kiera Cash. She is also survived by Warren’s children Dawn Tyler Lee (Robert) and Kevin Tyler (Greg Jernigan); her Landthorn stepfamily, and many extended family members and friends.

A celebration of Marty’s life will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at High Line Car House (550 South High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215). Family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. ET. The celebration of life will begin at 7 p.m. ET with light refreshments immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Marty’s memory to The Innocence Project or to your social justice charity of choice.
