Irene Alma Hatfield Daniels, born April 11, 1923 – joined her Heavenly Father early on Monday November 20th, 2017, at age 94.  Irene was born in Denison Texas, where she lived until the age of 3 and her family moved to Louisiana and then Kentucky.  She graduated from Salt Lick High School and later attended Nurses Training, where she made life-long friends.  She was briefly employed at Dayton OH Air Force Base where her job was to re-pack parachutes for our soldier’s fighting in WWII.  Later, she would share stories of finding blood on the chutes and wondering and worrying if the soldier had lived or died.  She married Chester R. Daniels, after his service in WWII on February 1, 1946 near Salt Lick KY; they soon moved to Columbus and began their family.   Irene felt blessed to be a stay-at-home mom but managed to work part-time at the Gray Drug Store in Great Western Shopping Center early in her marriage.  She was a Girl Scout Leader, PTA Officer and Council Member of Job’s Daughters Bethel #3.   She enjoyed her Thursday Morning Bowling League, but she especially loved gardening and shopping at the Tri-Village Trading Post.  She loved spending time with her husband at their winter home in Tampa FL for several years.  Irene and Chester also resided in Middletown OH while helping to care for her Mother in the early 1970’s.  A life-long member of Parkview United Methodist Church, she was active in UMW, Riverside Sewing Guild and Young-At-Heart.  She was also an active member of McDowell and Dodge Senior Centers and the Purple Hat Society.
Her husband Chester, son Lee and grandson Matt preceded her in death; as well as her 5 siblings.  She is survived by her loving daughters Lynn Whitmer and Sally Binegar along with dedicated son-in-law Larry Binegar.  Also surviving is her daughter-in-law Sharon Shaw and former daughter-in-law Peggy Wickiser.  Surviving grandchildren, whom loved her very much include: Wendi (John) Somerlot, Keri Whitmer, Jami (Randy) League, Kristen Hanson and Jodi Archer, step-grandchildren Jami (Tom) Bresnahan-Meyer, Andy (Judy) Binegar, Robin (Greg) Sexton and Dhea (Drew) Alexander-Simpkins, numerous adored great-grandchildren (many of whom she took on wonderful adventures to Gram & Gramps Camp at Indian Village) and several great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.  She will be missed by her wonderful sisters-in-law: Emma Daniels and Marilyn Hatfield.   She also leaves behind her constant companion and spoiled cat “Lucky”.
Per Irene’s wishes a private family interment will be held, with burial at Sunset Cemetery, Pastor Roland Moore officiating.   Arrangements handled by Jerry Spears Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to: Parkview United Methodist Church, 344 Algonquin Avenue, Columbus Ohio 43204.  “To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die”  Arrangements completed at Jerry Spears Funeral Home 2693 W.
